Special Schools

There are special schools for children who are deaf, blind, or who have other disabilities, such as autism. Most special schools that cater to students with learning, developmental, medical and behavioral issues are private, but they have the programs and trained staff to handle unique challenges. Unless enrollment in one of these special private schools is a public school placement, IDEA and Section 504 do not fully apply. Charter schools, on the other hand, are public and are required to provide services to students with disabilities.
