ESY - Educating Children with Disabilities

Extended School Year (ESY)

For some students, having the summer out of school makes them lose so much ground that they are not getting educational benefit from school. For these students, FAPE requires services during the summer. These services are called extended school year services, or ESY. They are provided if the IEP team determines that the services are needed for the student to receive an appropriate education. The IEP team determines this partly by tracking how the student performs after school holidays and absences. Any disagreement with the school is handled like any other IEP disagreement.
