Amy helps churches and ministries update their policies, conduct investigations, and respond appropriately to allegations. She also advises on legal and policy issues, coordinates legal audits, and defends ministries in litigation in both state and federal courts. Amy handles important constitutional issues, such as First Amendment free exercise, free speech, religious land use, religious liberties, church autonomy, and similar doctrines. Her experience includes nearly a decade as an associate at Mauck & Baker LLC in Chicago, a boutique law firm concentrating on church and nonprofit law. Amy is also experienced in appellate law, business law and estate planning.
In addition to her private practice, Amy serves as an Instructor of Business Law at Creighton University, where she has been teaching since 2014. At Creighton, she guides undergraduate students through relevant business law concepts and advises Pre-Law students.
Amy received her J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law. She also holds a B.A. in Political Studies and Communication from Dordt University. She is licensed to practice law in Nebraska, Illinois, and Indiana.
Amy's professional excellence is recognized through multiple awards, including the Heider College of Business Award for Excellence in Student Advising and Mentorship. She is an active member of several legal organizations, holding leadership positions in the Midwest Academy of Legal Studies in Business.
Amy's commitment to her community is evident through her involvement in local schools, churches, and community organizations. She is the wife to David, who served churches as a pastor for 20 years before becoming a Christian mental health counselor. She is the mom of two teens, a tween, a golden retriever, and a goldendoodle.
